Two Top 10 teams. Two teams unbeaten in Northern Lakes Conference play. Two of the most explosive offenses in the area.

This is a blockbuster.

Class 5A No. 7 Concord travels to Class 4A No. 10 Northridge Friday night for the Sports Michiana Game of the Week in a matchup that has all the makings of one of the best games of the season. Both teams are 2-0 in the Northern Lakes Conference and both are coming off dominant conference victories. Now, they meet in a game that could have a major impact on the NLC race.

Northridge enters the game at 4-0, and the Raiders have been one of the biggest stories in the area this season. After winning just three games in both 2024 and 2025, Northridge is back to peak form under first-year head coach Luke Amstutz. The Raiders are averaging an eye-popping 54 points per game, with junior quarterback Jake Scholl leading an offense that has scored at least 35 points in every game this season.

Northridge opened the season with a 62-32 victory over West Noble before edging Columbia City 35-34 in its home opener on August 28. The Raiders have been even more impressive since Northern Lakes Conference play began, opening with a 55-10 victory at Goshen before dominating Wawasee 64-6 at home last week.

Concord has been nearly as impressive since a heartbreaking start to the season. The Minutemen opened the year with a 22-20 loss to Elkhart in the first Sports Michiana Game of the Week, but they have responded by winning three straight. Concord followed the loss with a 48-13 victory over Jimtown, then opened NLC play with a 48-10 win over Wawasee before rolling past Goshen 44-3 last week. The Minutemen are averaging 40 points per game while giving up just 12 points per contest.

That sets up a fascinating matchup Friday night. Northridge brings the area’s highest-scoring offense into the game, while Concord has been one of the stingiest defensive teams around.

And with both teams sitting at 2-0 in the Northern Lakes Conference, there is plenty at stake when these two Top 10 teams meet.

The Sports Michiana Game of the Week kicks off Friday at 7 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning at 6:45 p.m.

On a hot and humid night, Southwest Michigan’s most dominant team over the last 3 years, appeared poised to head to the locker room with the lead.

But new Lakeshore coach Mark Frey wasn’t going to let Niles have the easy road to close the first half. The Lancers scored with 2:07 left to pull within 8-7. Still not satisfied, Frey used up his timeouts on Niles’ next possession. Brandon Walsh’s punt was a line drive kick right caught at the 16 and 84 yards later, Lakeshore senior Jonah Chavez was into the end zone for the touchdown with 7 seconds left in the 1st half. The punt return for a touchdown was our Big C Lumber Big Play of the Game.

Frey’s timeout decision paid off in a major way as Lakeshore led 14-8 at halftime and road the momentum into the 3rd quarter scoring on their opening drive to take 21-8 lead.

Niles, which has defeated Lakeshore, each of the last two seasons, didn’t throw in the towel. They scored early in the 4th to pull within 21-16 but couldn’t score again as Lakeshore won 21-16.

The Lancers are 2-0 for the first time since 2021 and will face arch rival St. Joseph next week in the War by the Shore. Niles, meanwhile drops to 0-2.

Lakeshore senior quarterback Kaden Griffiths was our Lakeland Care Network Player of the game, rushing 10 times for 104 yards and completing 6 of his 9 passes for 79 more yards.

Mishawaka’s quest for a 4th straight Northern Lakes Conference softball championship continues on Thursday when they travel to Northridge in our Sports Michiana Game of the Week.

The Cavemen are 8-1 overall and 5-0 in NLC play. The Raiders have won straight games and sit in 2nd place in the conference at 3-1.

It’s another top 10 showdown on the Sports Michiana Game of the Week on Tuesday as Bremen plays hosts to Triton in a matchup of two of the best small school teams in Indiana.

Bremen (18-3) is the Indiana Northern State Conference champions and ranked #6 in Class 2A while Triton (17-3) won the Hoosier North Conference title and are ranked #6 in Class 1A.

The two battled in the Bi-County Tournament back on January 23rd with Bremen winning 47-42.
