From ND Leprechaun to Catholic Priest; Focus on Faith with Fr. Andrew Budzinski
On the November 11th, 2024 edition of Notre Dame Federal Credit Union’s Irish Football Fix, host Chuck Freeby chats with one of his long time friends, Andrew Budzinski in our Focus on Faith interview. Andy has the unique experience of going from Notre Dame leprechaun to a Catholic priest.
In this candid conversation, Fr. Andy explains his journey to simply getting into Notre Dame and once he did, why he wanted to become the leprechaun. He shares vivid memories of the 1993 Game of the Century between Notre Dame and Florida where he served as the leprechaun, hosting the pep rally the night before and having a sideline view of Notre Dame taking down the #1 Seminoles.
A South Bend native, Fr. Andy now serves as the Pastor at St. Matthew Cathedral in South Bend.
Fr. Andrew explains how he decided he wanted to become a priest, presiding over the funeral of his father this year and the hilarious story of how he told he convinced his dad that Notre Dame had hired Jim Harbaugh as its next head coach. Plus, he explains what are some of the most rewarding experiences of being a priest.
