Freeman talks Virginia-Notre Dame matchup
(Notre Dame) — Marcus Freeman held his Thursday zoom press conference with media prior to Saturday’s game with Virginia. Here’s a summary of his comments.
Starts by talking of the confidence of UVA QB Anthony Colandrea: “He can extend plays with his legs. He’s a guy you have to account for in the run game. We have a plan for him.”
On Jack Kiser setting the all-time ND football record for games played this weekend: “To see his growth as a man and a football player has been tremendous. He’s a true Notre Dame man. He’s going to leave this place better than he found it.”
Freeman says Gabe Rubio, Donovan Hinish, Rylie Mills, Sean Sevilano and Armel Mukam may all make appearances in this game at defensive tackle.
On trying to get opponents’ offenses “Off-script”: “You have to have a good plan defensively that answers on that first drive anything you’ll see. We’ve got a good plan going, but we’re gonna have to adapt and adjust. That’s the game.”
On improvements at practice: “There’s not just one thing. It’s the consistency in doing what your task is. It’s a mindset mentality. Can we really focus on staying in the moment on this play, this rep, being intentional? It’s the intentionality of the way you work.”
On reserve corners Tae Johnson and Karsen Hobbs: “Both of them did some really good things in the Florida State game. Karsen has been having some intentional valuable reps in the last few weeks. Tae Tae is fresher in the legs, but trying to get caught up in timing.”
Saturday’s game with the Cavaliers is Senior Day, with kickoff shortly after 3:30 p.m EST. It will be televised on NBC/Peacock
