South Bend family shares unique experience during 2024 Notre Dame season

Every year, Notre Dame grad and Michiana native Bobby Kloska makes a master schedule of Notre Dame football games to give to all the employees at Notre Dame Federal Credit Union, where he works.

“That’s when it dawned on me that we have a son in three of our away game locations,” Bobby explains.

Bobby is someone who doesn’t let an opportunity pass him by. As a 3-time cancer survivor who has been chronically ill for 21 years, he lives life to the fullest. So he convinced his wife Margy to go on a pilgrimage during the Irish football season.  They went to the opener at Texas A&M with their oldest son Michael, made the easy trip to Purdue where 3rd oldest Joseph is a student and wrapped up the season with a trip to Los Angeles where 2nd oldest Nicholas is working in Hollywood to see the USC game. It was unbelievable experience for a family that has endured so many hardships with Bobby’s illnesses through the years.

Bobby and Margy joined us this week on Notre Dame Federal Credit Union’s Irish Football Fix to discuss this season, their faith, their love for Notre Dame and the Irish “Pub” they’ve created in their backyard to give thanks to all those that have helped them over the years.

Things will come full circle this Friday when Joseph and Michael return home to join Bobby to attend Notre Dame’s first ever home playoff game against Indiana at Notre Dame Stadium.

Bobby grew up a diehard Irish fan in one of the largest Catholic families in all of of Michiana. He saw the ’73 and ’77 national championships and was a student at Notre Dame when the Irish won their last national title in 1988.

“I know what it’s like for Notre Dame to be dominant but my kids don’t and they crave it–they’re dying for it,” Bobby explains passionately. “So to be able to go to the game with our boys and to be able to experience that, I hope and I pray that we continue on and can get by Indiana.”
