Mishawaka celebrated the 100th anniversary of The Cave with an old-time Saturday matinee today in the Princess City.
Northview (a consolidation that includes Brazil, the first opponent to play in The Cave) made the trek north and remained undefeated with a 56-47 triumph over the Cavemen. The two teams sported throwback uniforms representing the style worn by the two schools in their matchup from December 27, 1924.
As far as competition on the floor, Concord won the local game of the night, with a 53-47 overtime triumph over county rival Fairfield. Derrick DeShone’s Minutemen are now 6-3 as the Concord boss wins his 100th career game.
On the girls side, Warsaw set a school record for points in a game on its way to winning its own Holiday Tournament. Warsaw broke the whipped New Haven, 105-21, in the semifinals, then beat Chesterton in the championship, 90-29. Brooke Zartman led the way with games of 28 and 25 while hitting 15 3-pointers.
Elkhart also grabbed a holiday tournament title, downing NIC rivals Riley (68-39) and Adams (67-39). Danica Barnes paced the Lions with 22 points in the championship game.
South Bend Washington extended its NIC win streak to 49 with an easy 85-12 win over New Prairie. Miss Basketball candidate Kira Reynolds compiled a quintuple double in the game with 14 points, 18 rebounds, 12 assists, 11 steals and 10 blocks.
