(Notre Dame) — Like a V-8 engine, Notre Dame’s women’s basketball team is clicking on all cylinders.

All eight scholarship players available scored in the first quarter, and the third-ranked Irish never looked back on their way to an 91-52 romp over #21 California Sunday at Purcell Pavilion.

It’s Notre Dame’s 16th consecutive win, the squad’s longest winning streak since 2016.  The Irish are 21-2 overall and 12-0 in ACC play.

The balance showed throughout the game, as seven Irish players scored six points or more. Per usual, Hannah Hidalgo led the way with 24 points, but she was supported with 16-point efforts from backcourt mates Sonia Citron and Olivia Miles.

Niele Ivey’s squad played complementary basketball, with defense frequently leading to offense. Notre Dame held Cal to just 32 percent shooting from the field and forced the Bears into 21 turnovers. The Irish also dominated the boards, outrebounding the visitors from Berkeley, 43-30.

Freshman Kate Koval helped spark an 11-0 run late in the first to give Notre Dame a 22-15 lead after one.  Then in the second quarter, Maddy Westbeld capped another 11-0 run as the Irish built a 44-23 halftime lead.

Notre Dame advanced that even further in the third, putting together a 15-0 run at the end of the quarter to blow the game open.

The Irish now prepare for a visit to Pittsburgh Thursday night at 8 p.m. The game will be televised on the ACC Network.
