(Notre Dame) — The struggle is real for the Notre Dame men’s basketball team.

Micah Shrewsberry’s squad lost for the fourth time in the last five games, as Louisville handled the Irish, 75-60, at Purcell Pavilion Sunday night, sending the coach on a fiery postgame rant.

Notre Dame endured a miserable night of shooting, hitting just 37% from the field, and a mere 6-22 from three-point range.

It didn’t start that way for the Irish, as Braeden Shrewsberry hit three of his first four shots from beyond the arc, and Notre Dame jumped to an 18-12 lead.  Louisville responded with a big 13-0 run and Markus Burton picked up his second foul, bringing a seeming halt to the Irish offense, who trailed 35-28 at halftime.

In fact, Notre Dame went through a stretch of over 28 minutes of game time where no one besides Burton (22 points) or Tae Davis (15 points) made a basket.  Louisville took advantage with a 13-2 run, capped by consecutive threes from J’vonne Hadley to open a 64-46 run and send the sparse crowd headed for the exits.

Chucky Hepburn led a balanced Cardinals attack with 16 points, as the visitors placed five players in double figures, advancing their record to 20-6 overall and 13-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, a game behind Duke for first place.

Notre Dame is now 11-14, 5-9 in the ACC, with SMU visiting Wednesday night.
