The final night of the regular season found two local boys basketball standouts hitting significant milestones.
St. Joseph star Chase Konieczny became just the second St. Joseph County boys basketball player to eclipse the 2000-point mark in a 90-59 win over Mishawaka. Konieczny hit a three-pointer from the left side in the second quarter to get his 19th point of the night and join Penn alum (and current Notre Dame star) Markus Burton as the county’s only male members of the 2000-point club. The victory leaves St. Joe at 20-3 entering the Plymouth Sectional.
At North Side Gym, NorthWood’s Tyler Raasch calmly sank an early free throw to break the 1000-point mark for his career. The Grace-bound star helped lead the Panthers to an easy 55-20 triumph over Elkhart. Aaron Wolfe’s Panthers are now 19-4, as they will play host to a sectional at the Panther Pit next week.
In Michigan, district champions were crowned Friday night. Edwardsburg went on an astounding 26-0 run over the middle quarters on their way to a 45-35 triumph over Buchanan. The Eddies will face Marshall in the regional next week.
Bridgman kept the career of retiring coach Mike Miller alive, ousting defending Division 3 state champion Brandywine, 45-39. The Bees will meet Schoolcraft in the regional.
Here are all of Friday’s area scores
