Concord hires Jimtown’s Leighton as new boys basketball coach
Concord has announced the hiring of Tyler Leighton as its new boys basketball coach, pending school board approval on May 5th.
Leighton led his Alma Mater Jimtown to SemiState this year & is 29-22 in two seasons as a head coach.
He replaces his former teammate Derrick DeShone who moved into administration at Concord. Leighton and DeShone led Jimtown to a state title as players in 2004. Jimtown’s trip to SemiState this past season was its first since that 2004 season.
“I’m humbled by the amount of support shown to me by the Concord administrative team,” Leighton said in a press release. “I’m very excited for the opportunity to coach at Concord in the NLC and in the Elkhart Sectional.”
Jimtown was Leighton’s first head coaching job.
“I’ve loved working at Jimtown and leading my alma mater,” Leighton said. I’m very proud of how we’ve rebuilt the program.”
Before becoming head coach at Jimtown, Leighton was an assistant coach at Penn under Al Rhodes.
Concord was 13-10 this last season following an 18-5 season in 23-24.
