Chase Konieczny follows brother to FGCU
You can’t blame the Konieczny family if they’re looking for more “two-for-one” deals in Fort Myers.
On Tuesday, St. Joseph basketball star Chase Konieczny announced he would be following his brother, J.R., committing to play basketball at Florida Gulf Coast University.
The younger Konieczny is coming off a stellar career at St. Joseph, where he dunked in the game-winning points in the Class 3A State Championship game just six weeks ago. He scored a school-record 2138 points in his prep career, the second-highest total in St. Joseph County history behind Notre Dame’s Markus Burton. He was named to the Associated Press 2nd team all-state squad.
On April 28, Chase’s older brother, J.R., announced his transfer from Notre Dame to Florida Gulf Coast. Last season, J.R. averaged 4.4 points per game for the Irish, only starting in four contests.
They both head to Florida Gulf Coast, where the Eagles won 19 games last season under coach Pat Chambers. They last made it to the NCAA Tournament in 2017. They reached the Sweet 16 in 2013.
