South Bend has a state champion the 100m hurdles!

Washington’s Adriana Swanson dazzled the crowd at the IHSAA Girls Track and Field State Championships at North Central High School winning the first individual track final of the night in an incredible 13.83 seconds.

That’s a new personal record for Swanson, who is just a junior.

Swanson finished 10th in the same event last year as a sophomore. A year later, she shaved nearly a second and a quarter off her time to win the state title.

Swanson would also set a PR in the 300m hurdles, finishing in 8th place in a time of 44.05 seconds.

Whitko senior Gwen Howard would give Michiana a 2nd state championship as she won Gold in the Shotput with a throw of 46-11.00. Jimtown’s Brooklyn King finished 5th. Howard, who will throw at Duke next year, also finished 3rd in the Discus with a PR throw of 143-11.

Kristina Petkova is bringing a bronze medal back to Goshen. The RedHawk junior placed 3rd in the 400m run, setting a new PR as she finished in 55.87 seconds. Bremen’s Emma Kincaid finished 10th in the race.

Culver Academies sophomore Emily Baxter finished 3rd in the 800m run in a time of 2:12.11.

Jaidyn Kimbrough of Adams finished 4th in the 200m run, setting a new PR with a time of 24.59 seconds.
