(South Bend) — Perhaps the show “Succession” has returned to South Bend’s East Side.

After Maurice Scott, Sr. left to take the boys basketball head coaching job at crosstown Washington, his son, Maurice Scott Jr. has been selected to take over the Adams girls basketball program.  The move must still be approved by the South Bend school board.

“I’m super excited to lead the Lady Eagles basketball program,” Scott, Jr. said on Instagram. Adams principal Jim Seitz lauded Scott, Jr.’s deep passion for developing young people using the game of basketball.

The younger Scott rose to fame as a player at South Bend Riley, guiding Mark Johnson’s Wildcats to the 2015 4A Semistate and a sectional championship in 2016.  The stepbrother of WNBA star Skylar Diggins, he has risen through the coaching ranks of the SkyDigg teams on the AAU circuit, while also serving as a boys assistant coach at both St. Joseph and Washington.  “Junior” then moved to the girls game, serving as an assistant to his father the last two seasons.

The hiring of Mo Scott, Jr. also continues an odd “tradition” at Adams.  Four of the last five girls basketball coaches at the school have had the last name “Scott”.  Steve Scott coached in 2010-11. Leon Scott, Jr. had the job from 2011-18. After Dawn Huff’s reign, Mo Scott, Sr. held the job from 2023-25, and how his son takes the reigns.

The Eagles started 5-6 last season, but fell to 6-13 by the end of the years.
