Irish cornerback Christian Gray shares his incredible faith story
With 33 seconds remaining in the Orange Bowl on January 9th, Irish cornerback Christian Gray picked off a pass from Penn State quarterback Drew Allar. As he celebrated the moment, he immediately pointed to the heavens to give glory to God. Moments later, Notre Dame would boot a game winning field goal and the Irish would advance to the national championship game.
It was the biggest moment in Gray’s career and as it turns out, he doesn’t remember any of it.
“That moment was crazy and everything–I can definitely say that,” Gray began to explain to Sports Michiana in a 1-on-1 conversation. “When I caught the ball, I immediately blacked out. I feel like something came into my body. I told my mom about it and my mom told me it was the Holy Spirit. I don’t remember anything of what happened after the play. All I remember is that I got on the sidelines and started praying and got to my knees saying, ‘Thank you Lord, thank you Lord. Oh God let’s win this.’ I feel that play was a life changer, just a game changer in my Holy Spirit filling my faith.”
Gray sat down with Sports Michiana to chat faith, family and football on the opening episode of Notre Dame Federal Credit Union’s Irish Football Fix.

Gray also discussed suffering hardship as a kid with the passing of his dad when he was just four years old. That didn’t deter Christian from developing a strong faith that continues to this day including reading the Bible each day and sending notes to his mom about his thoughts on what he read.
Gray and the Irish are returning to the very site of his massive interception in the Orange Bowl this Sunday when Notre Dame opens the season on the road at Miami.
We hope you will enjoy this incredible conversation.
