Freeman ends NFL speculation, stays at ND
Notre Dame football coach Marcus Freeman can be quite the orator when he has to be, motivating his team and players with his words.
Monday, he fired up an entire fan base with just six words.
In his first post on X since the Irish were not selected for the College football playoff, the Irish head coach simply said “2026…run it back. Go Irish”.
This ran simultaneously with a story from Sports Illustrated writer Pat Forde who said Freeman informed two NFL franchises on Monday morning that he was staying at Notre Dame.
Forde also wrote “Notre Dame confirmed Freeman has agreed to a restructured contract. The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but his compensation is in the ‘top tier’ of college coaches.” The revised agreement would extend his contract through 2031.
Forde went on to say his sources said “Freeman’s decision came down to trusting the leadership alignment at Notre Dame, the experience of working with college-age athletes and the desire to make a run at a championship in 2026.”
Freeman is 43-12 in his Notre Dame tenure, including a 24-4 mark over the last two seasons, the most wins in a two-year span in Notre Dame history.
