Holiday Tourney titles claimed on busy prep Tuesday
Northridge, South Bend Adams and LaPorte boys basketball teams as well Saint Joseph’s girls all added to their trophy cases Tuesday, claiming holiday tourney titles.
Northridge took its third straight holiday tourney crown, winning the prestigious Phil Cox Tourney in Kokomo. Brady Scholl’s 30 points led the Raiders to a morning win over Kokomo, 76-61, while Tyrese Jones’ 31-point performance helped South Bend Riley knock off #4 Lawrence North, 67-52.
That led to a championship game showdown, where Northridge used a stifling 1-3-1 zone in the fourth quarter to stymie the high-scoring ‘Cats. Hayden Gorball scored 14 to lead Northridge to the 43-38 triumph.
John Adams is now 8-0 after winning three games in the Huntington Classic. After a doubleheader sweep on Monday, the Eagles downed the host school, Huntington North, 59-52. Jarvis Tolbert led the way with 21 points.
LaPorte knocked off county rival Michigan City, 45-42, to take its own holiday tourney crown. Griffin Ott-Large scored the final four points, to lead the Slicers, who are now 9-1.
On the girls side, St. Joe raised its record to 11-3 with a pair of easy wins to claim its holiday tourney trophy. Scott Fracnouer’s high-scoring squad blitzed Lakeland, 73-27, in the semifinals and then mauled Portage, 90-39, in the finals.
