IU football makes monster haul from transfer portal

(Bloomington) — Indiana football coach Curt Cignetti has built his program over the last two years from the transfer portal.

That’s clearly the strategy for 2026 as well.

On Sunday, the Hoosiers brought in seven players from the portal, quickly trying to restock the roster even before the current College Football Playoff run ends.  Among the players in the haul are TCU quarterback Josh Hoover, Michigan State wide receiver Nick Marsh, Notre Dame defensive end Joshua Burnham, Boston College running back Turbo Richard and Cincinnati defensive back Jiquan Sanks.

Hoover is the biggest name of the group, as he was the fourth-ranked passer in college football, and will be the heir-apparent to Heisman winner Fernando Mendoza, who is expected to declare for the NFL Draft.  Hoover has already thrown for 9,629 career yards and ranks second in touchdowns with 71. He’ll be Cignetti’s third transfer quarterback after Kurtis Rourke and Mendoza. Hoover will enroll in January.

Marsh was a player expected to visit Notre Dame this week, but instead announced his commitment after visiting Bloomington. The 6-3 receiver totaled 100 receptions for 1311 yards and nine touchdowns in two seasons at East Lansing.

Burnham had injury troubles during his Notre Dame career, but still managed three sacks and 6 TFL’s last season with the Irish.

Richard was another player with injury issues, but still put together two seasons that combined for 1302 yards and 13 TDs during his career in Chestnut Hill.

Of course, Indiana still has to finish out the 2025 season. The Hoosiers face Oregon in the national semifinals at the Peach Bowl Friday night in Atlanta.
