Lakeshore names Buchanan’s Frey as new head football coach
Lakeshore is hiring Buchanan’s Mark Frey as its next head football coach.
Frey was 41-27 in seven seasons at Buchanan and is 60-58 in 12 seasons as a head football coach overall. He began his head coaching career coaching at Riverdale High School in Ohio.
Of course, coaching is in the blood for Frey, who played for his legendary grandfather Phil Teegarden at Elkhart Memorial.
“It is a privilege to lead a program with such a storied history as Lakeshore High School,” Frey said. “Our goal is to honor the legacy of those who came before us while pushing the program and our student-athletes to their maximum potential. We will compete at the highest level, on and off the field, and I cannot wait to get started with our student-athletes.”
Lakeshore last won a district championship in 2020 but has a long history of winning in the Denny Dock years. Frey takes over for Danny Thompson who stepped down in December after going 22-28 in five seasons as the Lancers head coach.
Lakeshore Athletic Director Greg Younger says Frey has a proven track record of success and a vast array of experience that includes assistant coaching stops at the college level prior to becoming a high school head coach.
“Mark impressed us with his extensive experience and his ability to create a culture focused on preparation, confidence and high character,” Lakeshore Athletic Director Grey Younger said.
Frey said he was blessed to have had the opportunity to coach at Buchanan the last seven years.
“Not only did we transform Buchanan football but this school transformed my career and for that I will forever be grateful,” Frey said in a social media post Monday night announcing his resignation from Buchanan. “To our past and present players, it has been the joy of a lifetime to coach you. Thank you for giving everything you have, both on the field and in the classroom.”
