(Bloomington) — Indiana honored its national championship football team before the game. Maybe some of their magic rubbed off on the Hoosiers’ basketball squad.
Lamar Wilkerson scored 19 points and Nick Dorn added 18 as Darian DeVries notched his first big win as Indiana basketball coach with a 72-67 upset of #12 Purdue at Assembly Hall Tuesday night.
The win lifts the Hoosiers to 14-7 overall, 5-5 in Big Ten play. It’s the third straight loss for the Boilermakers, now 17-4 overall and 7-3 in the conference.
Indiana relied heavily on the three-point shot in the first half, using a pair from Tucker DeVries and a pair from Wilkerson to build a 40-29 lead at the break.
Purdue surged back in the second half, thanks to 23 points from Trey Kauffman-Renn. Braden Smith’s layup with 1:28 left brought Purdue within 65-63.
But Indiana’s Conor Enright answered with a three and a pair of free throws to help seal the deal for the Hoosiers, who have now won four of their last five against Purdue in Bloomington.
