Irish men fall below .500 with loss at Louisville
(Louisville) — There was nothing appetizing for Notre Dame basketball fans Wednesday night at the KFC Yum Center.
Instead, it was another plate of the same slop the Irish faithful have seen served up throughout the ACC season.
#24 Louisville pulled away in the final ten minutes to down Notre Dame, 76-65, sending the Irish to a sub-.500 record and sinking like a submarine. Micah Shrewsberry’s squad is now 11-12 for the year and just 2-8 in ACC play.
Things started well for the Irish, who bolted to a 16-7 lead before Louisville scored nine straight, tying it on Ryan Conwell’s 3-pointer. Seven lead changes followed before the Cardinals grabbed a 38-32 halftime edge, helped by Adrian Woolley’s coast-to-coast drive where no Irish player ever stopped the ball.
Freshman Brady Koehler scored two of his 11 off an offensive rebound in the second half, as Notre Dame closed to 57-53. Louisville answered as Kasean Pryon flicked the ball away from Cole Certa and fed a streaking Conwell, whose three-point play took the lead to 64-54.
Cole Certa led the Irish with 18 points, but Notre Dame shot just 39 percent from the field and a pathetic 6-of-14 from the foul line.
Notre Dame will try to right the ship as Florida State comes to Purcell Pavilion Saturday.
