Hecklinski, Brown step down from football jobs at Goshen & Glenn
A seemingly never ending head football coaching carousel in the Sports Michiana viewing area continued Wednesday with Joey Hecklinski and Ron Brown stepping down at Goshen and John Glenn.
Hecklinski, a former quarterback at Saint Joe, resigned to take a job in the private sector, Goshen announced. He was 2-18 in two seasons guiding the RedHawks. Prior to taking the Goshen job, Hecklinski was the running backs coach at Ball State.
“We are grateful to Coach Hecklinski for his leadership and the positive impact he has made on our students and football program,” said Goshen Athletic Director Jim Pickard in a press release. “He has invested deeply in our athletes both on and off the field, and we wish him the very best as he begins this next chapter in his professional journey.”
Goshen, which plays in the Northern Lakes Conference, has not had a winning season since 2016.
The day began with news first reported by Sports Michiana that Ron Brown was stepping away as head football coach at Glenn, according to multiple sources. Brown was 3-16 in two seasons. He stepped into the role on an emergency basis after the dismissal of John Barron. Brown previously coached at Triton, where he won a sectional title in 2019.
Brown will stay at Glenn as an assistant principal, a role he served in prior to becoming head football coach.
Glenn, which plays in the Indiana Northern State Conference, was 7-5 as recently as 2023.
The Sports Michiana viewing area currently has head football coach job openings at Goshen, John Glenn, Michigan City, South Central, Wawasee & Winamac in Indiana and Buchanan & Dowagiac in Michigan.
That follows the many area jobs that have already been filled this cycle including Lakeshore (Mark Frey), LaVille (Matt Thacker), Marian (Joe Calderone), Northridge (Luke Amstutz), Plymouth (Ron Shaffer) and Rochester (Isaac Shaffer).
