Penn swimmers finish 2nd; Warsaw’s Parrott wins state diving crown
(Indianapolis) — Saturday was a great day for Michiana athletes at the IHSAA boys swimming state finals here at the IU Natatorium.
Penn finished as team runner-up to Carmel for the second time in three years, thanks in large part to their relays. The Kingsmen finished 2nd in the 200 medley and 200 free and third in the 400 free. Sophomore Sawyer Wells turned in a third-place finish in the 200 free.
In fact, head coach John VanDreissche’s squad also had a podium finisher in every swimming race. Not even state champion Carmel could say that.
Warsaw’s Ian Parrott won the diving state championship. Parrott won by nearly 27 points and is only the second Warsaw athlete to win an individual boys swimming event. Parrott was also awarded the Herman F. Keller Mental Attitude Award for Boys Swimming.
