Irish women down Miami in ACC Tournament
(Duluth, Ga.) — Hannah Hidalgo says she likes being called a “dog”, or an “Energizer bunny” to describe her play.
What you can call her is a star.
Hidalgo scored 28 points and eight rebounds helping carry the 5th-seeded Irish to a 69-54 win over Miami, Fla. in the second round of the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament.
“Everybody is a so confident in the way they’re playing, so it’s big when everyone can step up and contribute.” said Hidalgo, after the Irish won their sixth in a row. “I’m so proud of the girls and how we’re playing.”
Notre Dame won this game with defense, holding Miami to just four points in the second quarter and opening up a 37-23 halftime lead.
“We’ve been playing with a lot of togetherness and that’s the word Coach (Niele) Ivey’s been using,” noted Hidalgo. “Everybody’s playing with confidence. We’re sharing the ball, we’re ‘one-more’-ing it and we’re playing great defense and being able to be consistent.”
Cassandre Prosper added 12 and Iyana Moore tossed in 11 points as Notre Dame raised its record to 21-9.
The Irish advance to the conference quarterfinals, where they’ll face 4th-seed North Carolina State Friday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. The game can be seen on ACC Network.
