introducing Sports Michiana

Sports Michiana, LLC. was formed in July, 2024 by co-founders Chuck Freeby and Angelo Di Carlo. With a changing local media landscape, they knew there was a void of high school broadcast coverage on the Michiana sports scene.

Covering High School and Notre Dame Sports

These two veteran television sportscasters had seen the shift to expanding sports coverage on both social media and digital platforms. With their combined 60 years of sports coverage in the Michiana area, they wanted to share their passions of covering high school and Notre Dame sports with local fans, players and coaches.

While many questioned whether it could be done, Sports Michiana combined with Gary Martin at Michiana Video to produce a high school Game of the Week just five weeks after the company was formed. Martin’s technical expertise combined with Michiana Video’s equipment allow viewers to continue to enjoy the high-production values that were a hallmark of the “Game of the Week” on television.

Sports Michiana is also proud to partner with WSBT-TV for additional distribution of the Game of the Week on the station’s Facebook and YouTube pages. Both Sports Michiana and WSBT benefit from the cross promotional aspects of the partnership.

In addition, Sports Michiana is part of the IHSAA Champions Network, and will provide tournament broadcast through that platform.

However, Sports Michiana is more than the “Game of the Week”. Through Freeby and Di Carlo’s X (formerly Twitter) pages, as well as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and this website, tens of thousands of followers rely on Sports Michiana as their “go-to” place for local sports coverage, including high school, Notre Dame and regional sports. It is not uncommon that many local sports stories “break” through these platforms.

In addition, Sports Michiana is currently producing two weekly podcasts, Notre Dame Federal Credit Union’s “Irish Football Fix” (which focuses on Notre Dame football) and the Tire Rack “Drive to the Game”, a high school football podcast. Both those podcasts air on Pulse FM, with additional distribution through Apple and Spotify.
