Notre Dame & Indiana both move up in CFP Rankings

Last Updated: November 13, 2024By

Notre Dame (8-1) is ranked #8 and seeded 9th in the latest College Football Playoff Rankings. If the playoffs started today, the Irish would be on the road at Tennessee in the 1st round of the 12 team playoff. Notre Dame is 2-0 against the current Top 25 with wins over #15 Texas A&M and #19 Louisville. The Irish still have a matchup against #24 Army to come.

Indiana (10-0) is ranked #5 and seeded 7th. The Hoosiers would host Alabama in the opening round if the playoffs started today. Indiana will face 2nd ranked and 5th seeded Ohio State on November 23rd.

If that’s confusing, here’s why. The top 4 seeds in the 12 team playoff must be conference champions. As a result, while ranked #2, Ohio St is the 5th seed because #1 Oregon is the projected Big 10 champion. BYU, while ranked 6th, moves up to #3 in seeding because it is the highest ranked Big 12 team at this time. Miami while ranked 9th, is seeded 4th as the projected ACC Champion.

If the playoffs started today…. It would look like this:
#12 Boise State at #5 Ohio State (winner to face #4 Miami)
#9 Notre Dame at #8 Tennessee (winner to face #1 Oregon)
#11 Ole Miss at #6 Penn St (winner to face #3 BYU)
#10 Alabama at #7 Indiana (winner to face #2 Texas)
