Notre Dame captain Kiser wants Irish fans Standing Friday
Notre Dame players are as excited as anyone for Friday to arrive.
Notre Dame captain Jack Kiser wants Irish fans on their feet Friday night when #7 Notre Dame (11-1) hosts #10 Indiana (11-1) in the 1st ever on-campus College Football Playoff game.
“There’s been a call to action for Irish fans to make this atmosphere different,” Kiser said this week. “I can imagine it’s going to be an unbelievable atmosphere to be a part of. If you have the opportunity to be there–put your coat on, put your hat on, get there and stand up–you will be warmer standing than you will be sitting down.”
Stand up he says! Someone alert the Notre Dame ushers of the request from the 6-year Irish captain.
Kiser isn’t the only Irish player fired up for Friday. Center Pat Coogan grew up in a South Side Chicago Irish Catholic diehard Notre Dame football family.
“It’s special really, especially for a guy like me watching Manti Te’o in 2012 and stuff like that,” Coogan explains. “It’s going to be an unbelievable atmosphere. I’m really excited to be a part of it but at the same time we have to go play a football game. We can’t get lost in all the theatrics and the crowd noise and anything like that. That’s gotta be used to our advantage but it’s going to be an unbelievable opportunity.”
With the importance of what is on the line naturally the pressure increases but tight end Mitchell Evans doesn’t view it that way.
“I’m just ready to play a football in Notre Dame Stadium, a night game, for the first time playing a college football playoff in a home atmosphere–that’s just exciting to me,” Evans says. “It just makes sense Notre Dame is hosting the 1st one ever because I think Notre Dame is the most storied program is college football.”
Notre Dame fans will be receiving Blue & Gold rally towels at the game. Indiana is apparently attempting to distribute their own red rally towel that will be distributed before the game in various locations.
Kickoff on Friday night is set for just after 8pm. The game will be broadcast on ABC and ESPN.
