Virginia WR Fields transfers to ND
Former Virginia wide receiver Malachi Fields announced on his Instagram account Monday he is transferring to play at Notre Dame.
Fields was highly sought after by both the Irish and Penn State. He will have one year of eligibility remaning.
The 6-4, 220-pounder has caught over 50 passes for over 800 yards in each of the last two seasons for the Cavaliers. He joins Alabama defensive back Devonta Smith as the only transfers to the 2025 Irish so far in this portal window, although more are expected.
At Monday’s press conference, Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman did not address Fields directly, but did say “Up until Friday was preparation for Indiana. Saturday, you kind of put on a different hat and said, ‘OK, hey, let’s look at a couple different portal situations.’ Now, we’re back to preparing for Georgia. We try to eliminate as many distractions as we can for our current players and our program and what we’re trying to do. But we also know the transfer portal is a part of college football right now.”
