(Coral Gables, Fla.) — In her media session Wednesday, Notre Dame women’s basketball coach Niele Ivey noted her team had a problem with slow starts in recent games.

Problem solved.

Notre Dame jumped out to a 10-0 lead and never looked back on the way to an easy 80-42 win over Miami, Fla. Thursday night here at the Watsco Center.

The win is the 19th in a row for the top-ranked team in women’s college basketball. Notre Dame is now 24-2 overall and 15-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.

Four Irish players scored in double figures, led by Sonia Citron. The Irish guard hit her first five shots and finished with 19 points. Hannah Hidalgo added 18. Olivia Miles contributed 14 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Liatu King had another double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

The Irish referred to the game as a business trip, and handled business efficiently.  After taking an 18-6 lead in the first quarter, Citron drained back-to-back threes early in the second quarter, expanding the lead to 26-6. Hidalgo buried a four-point play off a dandy feed from Miles late in the half, and the game was over from that point.

The Irish will stay in Miami one more night to watch alumni play in the Unrivaled 3-on-3 league.  Notre Dame then heads to Raleigh for nationally-televised Sunday matchup with #13 North Carolina State.
