(New York) — Notre Dame guard Sonia Citron may have had the lowest profile of anyone in last year’s Notre Dame backcourt. The steady, consistent senior didn’t let that stop her from becoming one of Notre Dame’s highest WNBA draft picks ever.

Monday night, the former Notre Dame guard was selected No. 3 overall by the Washington Mystics at the 2025 WNBA Draft in Manhattan. Citron is  the 11th Irish player chosen in the opening round, and the school’s 21st WNBA draft pick overall.

Citron is the only player in program history to record 1700 points, 700 rebounds and 300 assists. She recorded 1774 points (11th all-time), made 173 triples (eighth) and finished with a career 84.3 free throw percentage.

Citron’s teammate, Maddy Westbeld, was selected by the Chicago Sky in round two as the 16th pick over all.  Westbeld scored 1710 career points and ranks in the top ten in program history in rebounds and blocked shots.

In Westbeld, the Sky add a pick-and-pop power forward, who is also a good screener, a solid defensive rebounder and a good positional defender.

In round three, Los Angeles selected Irish forward Liatu King with the 28th pick overall. King, a transfer from Pittsburgh, became a double-double machine in her only season with the Irish, averaging 11.5 points and 10.4 rebounds per game.  The rebound mark set a Notre Dame single-season record

Connecticut’s Paige Bueckers wss the first pick of the draft, chosen by the Dallas Wings.
