Niles’ Olsen heads up area all-state baseball selections
It’s an honor to be named all-state in your division or class. It’s another thing when you make a squad that spans all the classes.
That’s the honor bestowed to Niles first baseman Brenden Olsen, who has been named to the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association Dream Team. That’s an all-state squad put together, regardless of what division a player competes.
Olsen is part of the Division 2 all-state squad after helping the Vikings to a district championship with a .401 batting average, nine homers (2nd in state), 39 RBI and 20 stolen bases. Olsen had an outstanding OPS (on base plus slugging percentage) of 1.203.
Three more area players were named to the Division 3 all-state squad. Watervliet junior Caleb Jewell made the squad as a pitcher, fanning 86 batters in just 44-2/3 innings for the Panthers. Brandywine junior outfielder Kaeden Warfield set a school record, leading the state of Michigan with 66 stolen bases while batting .405. Bridgman sophomore catcher Ty Adams also makes the squad after helping the Bees nab their third straight district championship.
