Ten area baseball players named All-State
(Indianapolis) — The Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association has named its all-state baseball teams for each class, and ten area players have garnered first-team honors.
In Class 4A, Penn seniors Mason Braun and Will Barnes are joined by two juniors, Elkhart catcher Max Shreiner and Warsaw third baseman Quinton Brock. Braun, an LSU commit, was named to one of the outfield spots, while Barnes (headed to Maryville University) was the coaches’ pick at first base. Elkhart’s Shreiner tied for the state lead in home runs with nine, while Brock batted .411 and stole 17 bases for the NLC champion Tigers.
In Class 2A, Westview pitcher Max Engle, Lakeland catcher Levi Cook and Rochester third baseman Tanner Reinartz all garnered first-team honors. Engle, committed to pitch at Huntington, finished fifth in the state with 104 strikeouts and led the Warriors to the semistate. Cook, only a junior, batted .469 while driving in 40 runs on the season for the 25-5 Lakers. Reinartz, the IHSBCA District Player of the Year, had an incredible senior season for the Zebras, batting .515 with seven home runs.
In Class 1A, outfielders Drew Bingamon of Triton and Ayson Harper of North Judson are joined by Caston first baseman Noah Herd. The junior Bingamon was one of the state’s top ten run scorers this season, while bating .420 with five homers for the sectional champion Trojans. Just a freshman, Harper led the Blue Jays with a .542 batting average and 17 stolen bases. A senior, Herd batted .395 and led Caston with 29 RBI.
