WATCH REPLAY: Saint Joseph wins 8th regional title; 500th win in program history
They say defense wins championships and that certainly was the case once again for the Saint Joseph football team as they defeated Hobart 10-7 in a defensive showdown Friday night at Father Bly Field in our Sports Michiana Game of the Week.
It’s the 8th regional championship in program history for Saint Joe. The victory also was the 500th overall in program history.

Ryder Place kicked off the scoring in this one with a 1st quarter field goal to put Saint Joe 3-0. The Huskies would throw a 2nd quarter interception that would give Hobart a short field and it would lead to the 1st touchdown of the game. The Brickies led 7-3 at halftime.
Saint Joe’s defense would not give up anything else from there.
With the offense struggling to score, head coach Ben Downey went to the bag of tricks as his son Dallas Downey took the ball on an end around and the southpaw wide receiver threw a touchdown pass to junior James Criniti late in the 3rd. The touchdown pass was our Big C Lumber Big Play of the Game.
On the next drive, Criniti intercepted a pass. Criniti was our Reliance Player of the Game.
Saint Joe’s defense shutout Hobart from there for the win.
Saint Joe will travel to Fort Wayne Dwenger for SemiState next Friday.
