(Indianapolis) — The second verse was the same as the first for NorthWood’s Naima Ghaffar.

The 135-pound wrestler won her second consecutive state championship Friday night, winning a 10-5 decision over Garrett’s Neveah Wilson in the championship match.  Ghaffar closes her senior season with an impressive 44-1 record.

The match closed out a trilogy of tournament matches between the two grapplers. Ghaffar won the sectional championship, but Wilson prevailed last week in the regional.

NorthWood finished 9th in the team competition, one spot behind conference rival Plymouth. The Lady Pilgrims finished 8th thanks to runner-up finishes from juniors Angel Smith (125) and Caroline Balica (130). Both girls lost by pins in their championship matches.

Jimtown freshman Sophia Carper also finished as a state runner-up, losing by pin in the 105-pound class.

Indian Creek’s Libby Dowty pulled of a rare state championship double. The IHSAA girls cross country champion also is the state champion at 110 pounds, winning by pin

Whiteland won the team championship, the school’s first in any sport, while Crown Point was 2nd. Highland’s Alexsandra Bastaic won the IHSAA Mental Attitude Award after picking up her fourth state championship at 155 pounds
