With temperatures below zero outside, Fairfield-Westview proved to be the hottest ticket in Michiana Friday night as the long time NECC rivals battled in front of a standing only crowd at the Falcon Nest in a girls boys doubleheader our Sports Michiana Games of the Week.

Eva Herbert scored 15 and Madison Jones scored 14 points as the Fairfield girls rolled to a a 48-28 win in the opener. Jones was our Reliance Player of the Game. Maddie Treat delivered our Big C Lumber Big Play of the Game when she sunk a half court shot to close out the 1st half.

The Falcon girls improve to 14-6 overall and 8-1 in the NECC while Westview drops to 11-8 overall and 5-4 in league play.

Westview avoided the doubleheader sweep as the boys defeated Fairfield for the 2nd time in 8 days in a top 10 showdown to take over sole possession of 1st place in the NECC.

Austin Schlabach scored 23 points and Kaden Grau added 18 points as the Class 2A #3 Westview defeated Class 3A #9 Fairfield 66-52. Schlabach was our Reliance Player of the Game while Grau delivered our Big C Lumber Big Play of the Game with his hustle on a loose ball that led to a Daniel Yoder bucket and foul.

The game started slow and was tied at 8 after one. While the pace picked up in the 2nd quarter, the game was even at 26 at the half. That’s when Westview took control, outscoring the Falcons 16-8 in the 3rd and 24-18 in the 4th.

3 pointers were the difference with Westview making 11 trifectas in the game.

The Westview boys are now 13-1 overall and 5-0 in the NECC. Fairfield falls to 7-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
