Irish women whip Wake, 78-54
(Winston-Salem, N.C.) — Notre Dame’s women’s basketball team sprinted to a 10-0 lead and never looked back on the way to a 78-54 win at Wake Forest Thursday night.
All-American Hannah Hidalgo led the way with 26 points, five rebounds and four assists, as the Irish raised their record to 17-9 overall, 9-6 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.
The Irish employed a dynamic transition game, outscoring the Demon Deacons, 27-0, on fastbreak points.
“Really pleased getting this win…a road win, this was big for us,” commented Irish coach Niele Ivey. “I was really pleased with how defended, held them below their average.”
KK Bransford added 13 points off the bench, while Iyana Moore chipped in 11 and Cass Prosper added 10.
The Irish enjoyed one of their better shooting nights of the season, hitting 52% from the field, including 16-of-17 on layups.
Notre Dame closes out the week-long road trip in Dallas, facing SMU Sunday at 6 p.m.
