Plymouth, Penn & Warsaw claim girls track sectional crowns
Individual success led to team glory for three area girls track teams Tuesday night. Let’s take you around the area with this McKinnies Realty recap.
In our Sports Michiana Game of the Week, Plymouth won the first five races of the night, dominating the field to win the Bremen Sectional. WATCH A REPLAY HERE. Jersey Hunter tallied 32 points, winning the 100 hurdles, 4×100 relay, finishing second in the long jump and fifth in the high jump. Teammate Alana Allen was also on that 4×100 squad and won individual crowns in the 100 and 200. Vivy Miller anchored the 4×800 relay and effortlessly won the 1600 and 3200-meter runs.
Bremen’s Kincaid sisters, senior Emma and sophomore Kate, each picked up a pair of blue ribbons. Emma Kincaid won the 400, Kate took the 800 and both were part of the victorious 4 x 400 relay squad.
Tippecanoe Valley’s Betty Shepherd was also exceptional, winning the 300-meter hurdles and taking second in the 100 hurdles and discus.
At Mishawaka, Penn claimed its sixth consecutive sectional crown, outpacing John Adams, 150-122.5
Shreya Nayee (4×800 relay, 1600) and Zoya Turk (400, 4×400) were double winners for the Lady Kingsmen. John Adams sprinter Jaidyn Kimbrough was sensational, winning the 100, 200 and anchoring an Eagles win in the 4×100. Washington state champion Adriana Swanson continued her dominance, winning both hurdle events. She took the 300 hurdles in a blistering 43.29 seconds, winning by over three seconds.
At Fisher Field, Warsaw took a different path to its 18th consecutive sectional championship. The Tigers recorded only one event victory — Eden Metz in the 800 — but relied on scoring depth to beat Elkhart 112.5 to 100.
Goshen had a record-breaking night. Kristina Petkova set a sectional mark in the 400, clocking in at 57.03 seconds. Amari Lind established a new standard in the 200 at 24.98, and the two helped close out the night in the 4 x400 that shattered a 39-year-old record with a blazing time of 3:53.32
Elkhart’s Isis Robbins swept both hurdles races, setting a new record in the 100 HH at 15.18. Jimtown’s Brooklyn King was also a double winner in the shot and discus. Her discus toss of 41-8 also set a new sectional mark.
All these athletes will be on display Tuesday, May 26 when they converge on Foreman Field to compete in the Goshen Regional.
