(Kalamazoo) — It’s a familiar recipe for Lakeshore softball fans. Timely hitting plus solid pitching equals a Lancer victory…this time in the MHSAA quarterfinals.

Lily Dustin and Madi Ettinger each drove in three and Ashley Ramirez fanned 14 as the Lancers cruised past Hudsonville Unity Christian, 8-1, Tuesday afternoon at Kalamazoo College. The win puts Denny Dock’s team in the Final Four for the 11th time in his illustrious career, but the program’s first visit to East Lansing since 2022,

Dustin started things in the bottom of the first with a two-run single to left to get Lakeshore on the board. That gave the senior an amazing 60 RBI for the season.

Unity Christian scratched out its only run in the top of the third. Ella Davison’s bunt single drove in a run to narrow the gap to 2-1.

Ettinger delivered an answer in the bottom of the frame, coming off the bench to deliver a two-run single to center, extending the Lancer lead to 4-1.

That was more than enough for Ramirez, who peppered the strike zone, overwhelming the Crusader bats. The top-rated junior in the state, scattered seven hits, holding down a team that had scored double-digits in every tournament game so far.

Lakeshore will now face Armada in the Division 2 State semifinals Thursday afternoon. First pitch at Michigan State University is set for 3 p.m.
