(East Lansing) — A hot pitcher in softball can change everything. That’s what Lakeshore’s softball team encountered Thursday afternoon in East Lansing.

Freshman Megan Cox threw 5-2/3 innings of no-hit ball and survived a rocky 7th inning to down the Lancers, 4-2, in the Division 2 State Semifinal at Michigan State University.

Cox fanned 14 and walked no one. The Tiger hurler looked as though she might cruise to the win, before Lakeshore started a two-out rally in the final frame. Lily Dustin singled and scored on Payten Strefling’s double to get the Lancers on the boar. Ashley Ramirez brought Strefling home with a single to narrow the gap to 4-2. Leah Fisher followed with a single to bring the go-ahead run to the plate, before Cox recorded one more strikeout to end the game.

Cox and sophomore Lily Piconke each had two hits and an RBI to lead the Tigers into Saturday’s state championship game. Lakeshore’s season ends with a 34-5 record.
