Opening night provided plenty of “barbershop talk” for high school football fans in the Sports Michiana coverage area.

Our “Game of the Week” had Elkhart survive a comeback effort from Concord to win, 22-20. Micah Jarrell threw for 183 yards and three touchdowns, but the Lions couldn’t celebrate until Concord missed a 28-yard field goal with 36 seconds remaining.

In other notable action

• Warsaw scored 15 points in the fourth quarter to beat Fort Wayne Snider, 33-30. Tucker Reed ran for 257 yards and three touchdowns, but it was Wyatt Harman’s 95-yard touchdown romp with 2:19 left that was the game-winner
• Cayden Keen hit Harrison Cooper with a 15-yard touchdown strike late in the game as Adams rallied to beat Culver Academy, 9-8
• Northridge set a school record for points in a game in a 62-32 rout of West Noble
• Penn’s Landon Hall completes 15 of 20 passes for 315 yards and six touchdowns as the Kingsmen top Valpo, 49-24
