A member of the Indiana Sportswriters and Sportscasters Hall of Fame, Sports Michiana co-founder Chuck Freeby knows the complete Michiana sports scene as well as anyone—mainly because he’s been a part of it all his life. Born in South Bend, he is a 1982 graduate of Elkhart Central High School. In 1986, he received a B.A. in American Studies from the University of Notre Dame.

These days, he is well known for his love of area high school sports. His passion showed for 17 years at WNDU-TV, where Chuck pioneered expanding high school television coverage with “Friday Night Flights” during football season and “Roundball Roundup” for basketball.

For 20 seasons, Chuck served as sports director at WHME-TV 46, where he called play-by-play on the high school football and basketball “Game of the Week,” various college sports events, and co-hosted the “Morning Jumpstart” on Pulse FM.

In 2017, Chuck was named Indiana’s Sportscaster of the Year by the Indiana Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association (ISSA). He was inducted into the ISSA Hall of Fame in 2019 and the Indiana Football Hall of Fame in 2022.

Chuck also takes on the challenge of giving back to the community through public service. He is a frequent guest speaker and emcee around town for a variety of charities, including Hannah’s House, Christ Child, and Reins of Life. His proudest community achievement comes from serving for nearly 30 years as a board member for the Women’s Care Center. His work has helped raise tens of millions of dollars for local charities.

He has also served as a coach and umpire at Chet Waggoner Little League and in the Inter-City Catholic League.

Chuck and his wife, Diane, have been married for 33 years and are the parents of six children: Peter, Christopher, Mary, Jeanie, Rosie, and T.J. They live in South Bend with their mini-doodle, Winnie.

Co-Founder of Sports Michiana, Angelo Di Carlo, is a veteran sportscaster who is in his 18th year covering Michiana high school sports and Notre Dame.

Angelo serves as the sideline reporter for our Game of the Week football broadcasts and as an analyst for basketball while filling in on play-by-play duties when needed. He also co-hosts Notre Dame FCU’s Irish Football Fix and Tire Rack Drive to the Game podcasts, which air on Pulse FM. He handles our sales and is responsible for overseeing our crew and production.

Angelo is an Emmy-nominated reporter and, in the spring of 2024, was named the Virgil Sweet Award winner by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association for his commitment to covering high school basketball in the state.

The son of Sicilian immigrants, Angelo grew up in the suburbs of Allentown, Pennsylvania and graduated from Syracuse University in 2005. He arrived in Michiana in 2007, when he was hired as a sports anchor at WNDU-TV. He studied under Chuck Freeby and the late Jeff Jeffers, serving as a co-host with both on NewsCenter 16’s Countdown to Kickoff. He also anchored the postgame newscast live from Notre Dame Stadium immediately following Irish home games for 11 years. During this time, he was known for his coverage of high school sports, including Friday night highlights and feature stories. He’s been blessed to cover the Super Bowl, the College Football National Championship, the Women’s Basketball National Championship, countless Final Fours and NCAA tournaments, and many high school state championship games.

After departing WNDU, Angelo shifted to radio as the Sports Director at Redeemer Radio 95.7 FM for five years. He spearheaded coverage of Marian and Saint Joseph athletic broadcasts, including adding video streaming of football and basketball games in 2020. He also led an internship program with high school students from both Saint Joe, Marian and Marian and hosted and produced a Notre Dame football and high school football radio show. During this time, he took over all radio sales and advertising for the station.

In 2023, Angelo moved to WHME TV 46 and Pulse FM as Assistant Sports Director and Sales Executive, serving in many of the capacities he does to this day at Sports Michiana.

Angelo met his wife, Molly, at WNDU, where she was a producer at the time. They got married in 2017 and are blessed to be the parents of their energetic toddler, Lily. The Di Carlos are parishioners at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in South Bend.

Bo Hundt is an analyst and sideline reporter on the Sports Michiana announcing team, continuing a role he developed for over 18 years on the WHME-TV 46 “Game of the Week.” A three-sport star at Bremen from 1989 to 1992, Bo still holds many records for the Lions. As a running back, he rushed for over 6,000 yards in his brilliant career, scoring 772 career points. In basketball, he helped the Lions win two sectional titles in the era before class basketball. His best sport may have been baseball, where Bo went on to a brief pro career with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Bo now uses his athletic talent to coach youth sports. He led his alma mater, Bremen, to a 2016 baseball championship. After stepping down as head coach there, Bo has continued to coach many travel baseball teams.

He also serves the Michiana community as the Building Commissioner for the City of Mishawaka.

Bringing 15 years of deep-rooted experience in collegiate basketball, Craig Heatherly brings plenty of expertise to his role as a sideline reporter on Sports Michiana.

A former basketball player at Mishawaka, Heatherly played at Division II Massachusetts-Lowell, helping his team to two NCAA tournament appearances.

Upon graduation, Heatherly started his coaching career at the NAIA level at Davenport University in Michigan, where he spent five years. He then moved to the NCAA Division I level as an assistant, spending four seasons at North Dakota and two at Cincinnati.

His dedication and pursuit of excellence are now directed toward serving risk management clients at Gibson Insurance, where he also hosts the podcast “The Path Less Traveled.” Craig is excited to bring his passion and expertise in basketball to Sports Michiana.
