She won two WNBA championships and captured Olympic Gold but she’s perhaps best known for leading Notre Dame to its first national championship in women’s basketball back in 2001, clinching the victory over Purdue with a pair of free throws with 5.8 seconds left.

“It’s just a surreal moment where you’re just blocking out all the noise and you’re just focused on what is my routine when I’m shooting these free throws,” Riley explained in an interview with Angelo Di Carlo on the October 21st edition of Notre Dame Federal Credit Union’s Irish Football Fix. “And after hitting every ounce of the rim, it decided to bounce in, which was great. And then, you know, once you see that clock expire, it’s just a feeling that is indescribable to know that you, along with your teammates, had just accomplished this goal that you had set out to, not just that one year, but for four years. For us to walk off the court as champions was just an amazing, memorable time.”
