Marian girls soccer team falls in shootout in State Finals
The Marian girls soccer team saw their season end in heartbreaking fashion as they lost in shootout to Lawrenceburg in the 2A state championship game at Carroll Stadium in Indianapolis Saturday afternoon.
Marian was outshot in the game 23-11 but actually had more high end opportunities with five shots on goal to four for Lawrenceburg.
After two overtime periods, Lawrenceburg dominated the shooting winning 4-1 in penalty kicks.
Marian won its only girls soccer state championship in 2012. They lost in the state final in overtime when the current seniors were freshmen in 2021.
The victory is the first state championship in girls soccer for Lawrenceburg.
