Goodrich too much for Niles in MHSAA title game
(Detroit) — A historic season for Niles football ended just short of the ultimate goal Friday at Ford Field.
Chase Burnett ran for 157 yards and two touchdowns, as Goodrich dominated both sides of the line of scrimmage on the way to a 35-6 win over Niles in the MHSAA Division 4 state championship game.
The Martians held a Niles offense that had been scoring over 40 points a game to just 96 yards total offense, completely stymying Scot Shaw’s squad.
Meanwhile, Goodrich employed a balanced attack, racking up 256 yards on the ground, while quarterback Tanner Mazich threw for 168 yards and a touchdown.
Peyton Gordon scored the lone touchdown for the Vikings on a 35-yard scamper with 1:02 remaining.
Niles, making its first appearance ever in the football state finals, finishes the season at 12-2.
