Wawasee’s Mishler sets new national HS swim record in 50 free
A Michiana swimmer just set a new national record for the fastest time ever recorded by a high school swimmer in the 50 yard freestyle.
Wawasee senior Julie Mishler won in 21.56 seconds in a home meet against NLC foe Concord Tuesday, surpassing the previous national record of 21.59 set by Gretchen Walsh in 2020 in Tennessee. Walsh just won a silver medal at the 2024 Olympics in the 100 meter butterfly.
Mishler, who competed in the US Olympic Trials at Lucas Oil Stadium in June, finished 2nd in the 50 free at the IHSAA State Finals last February behind Penn’s Lily Christianson. Christianson won the race in 21.72 seconds while Mishler finished in 21.85. Both times were better than any other girl in Indiana state finals history. Mishler also finished 2nd in the 100 yard backstroke.
She will swim at Louisville next year, officially signing with the Cardinals last month.
