Davis scores 26 as Irish men whip BC
(Notre Dame) — Tae Davis rattled the rim with a windmill dunk early and then shook down the thunder the rest of the night.
Davis scored 26 and Penn alum Markus Burton added 20 as Notre Dame men’s basketball snapped a four-game skid with a 78-60 win over Boston College at Purcell Pavilion Monday night.
The victory leaves the Irish at 8-9 for the season and 2-4 in ACC play.
“Even though this one was choppy and back and forth early on, we buckled down and made plays when we needed to,” said Notre Dame head coach Micah Shrewsberry after the game. “Shout out to (Julian) Roper and Kebba (Njie) and their hustle plays throughout the game.”
The two squads traded buckets for most of the first half, before a 9-0 run late in the stanza helped the Irish grab a 36-33 lead going into halftime.
Boston College started the second half well, taking a 44-40 lead on an Elijah Strong three-pointer with 17:23 left. The Irish regained the lead on a Burton jumper five minutes later.
Donald Hand drained three of his team-high 17, tying the game at 48 with 10:36 to play. That’s when Davis keyed an 18-4 Irish run and Notre Dame never tailed after that.
Shrewsberry’s team has the rest of the week to prepare for a road game at Syracuse Saturday afternoon. Tipoff will be at 4 p.m. on ACC Network.
