Pair of upsets highlight MHSAA boys district semifinals
There has been some wild basketball played at Dowagiac High School’s Division 2 district tournament this week. Wednesday night was no exception, as the top two seeds in that district were knocked off.
In the opener, Edwardsburg star Brody Schimpa scored 21 as the Eddies knocked off Lakeland Conference champ Berrien Springs, 54-49. The loss ends the career of Shamrock star JJ Frakes, who is headed for the University of Oregon.
Edwardsburg (17-7) will meet surprising Buchanan in the Friday’s championship. The Bucks used a 12-0 third quarter run to rally past perennial power Benton Harbor, 39-36. The win lifts Buchanan to 17-6 on the season.
