Burton, Hidalgo announce returns to ND
(Notre Dame) — In the busy world of the transfer portal, Notre Dame’s two biggest basketball stars have both decided to stay put.
Markus Burton and Hannah Hidalgo have announced in consecutive days they are both returning to the Notre Dame men’s and women’s basketball programs respectively.
Burton, a Penn High School alum, led all Atlantic Coast Conference men’s basketball teams in scoring at 23.5 points per game. The rising junior was coveted by many college programs and even considered the NBA draft, according to his agent Ron Shade of Octagon Sports. In the end, Burton decided to stay at Notre Dame, where he’ll be the building point for Micah Shrewsberry’s third season.
Hidalgo, a two-time All-America selection, wrote a lengthy piece for The Players Tribune explaining her decision to return. Toward the end of the piece, Hidalgo wrote “I’m excited now for an offseason to get better. More than anything, I am excited to do it again at Notre Dame.”
Hidalgo averaged 23.8 points, five rebounds and 3.6 assists per game for the Irish last season. Her return is welcome news for an Irish program that is reeling following a sweet-16 loss to TCU in the NCAA Tournament and the departure of four players through the transfer portal.
