Penn, ND star Kavadas back in bigs
(Anaheim) — Former Penn and Notre Dame baseball star Niko Kavadas has been recalled by the Los Angeles Angels to their major league roster.
Kavadas’ promotion was prompted by All-Star Mike Trout going on the 10-day injured list with a knee contusion. Speculation says that Kavadas will be the Angels DH, with Jorge Soler moving from that role to the outfield.
Kavadas had been playing at AAA Salt Lake City, where he was batting .248 with five homers and 20 RBI.
Last season, Kavadas played in 30 games with the Angels and slugged four big league homers. He is the first Penn High School player to reach the big leagues since Bill Edgerton, who played for the A’s and Seattle Pilots from 1966-69.
