Michigan fires Sherrone Moore
(Ann Arbor) — An alleged inappropriate relationship with a staff member has led the University of Michigan to fire head football coach Sherrone Moore with cause.
A university investigation found credible evidence of the relationship, which is “a clear violation of university policy”, according to athletic director Warde Manuel.
Biff Poggi has been named interim coach for the Citrus Bowl.
Michigan went 9-3 this season and finished ranked 18th in the College Football Playoff rankings.
Overall, Moore went 18-8 in two seasons as the team’s coach after replacing Jim Harbaugh. Moore served as acting coach in four games during Harbaugh’s tenure. Moore has been on staff since 2018 going from tight ends coach to offensive line coach and then offensive coordinator before becoming head coach.
