Syracuse beats ND, 86-72
(Syracuse) — Notre Dame needed to hit the brakes on a long skid. They came to the wrong place to do it.
For the fifth straight time, Notre Dame lost at Syracuse Saturday night, 86-72. Micah Shrewsberry’s Irish have now lost seven of their last eight overall to fall to 11-11 on the season.
Notre Dame’s defense was atrocious, allowing the Orange to shoot 57 percent from the field, including 10-25 from three-point range. Nate Kingz led the way with 28 points, including five three-pointers. Former Irish player, J.J. Starling added 21 points and five assists.
Jalen Haralson led Notre Dame with 26 points, including a pair of spectacular dunks and Braeden Shrewsberry added 17.
The Orange hit four threes early in the game, building a 23-12 lead midway through the first half. They remained comfortably in front until a Cole Certa three brought Notre Dame within six with seven minutes left.
Kingz answered with a three-pointer to spark a 9-0 run and the Irish never seriously challenged after that.
Notre Dame remains on the road with a Wednesday date at Louisville, set for a 7 p.m. tip.
