Westview, Triton earn state title berths
The Sports Michiana coverage area will be well-represented at next week’s Indiana High School Athletic Association boys basketball state finals.
Both Triton (1A) and Westview (2A) punched their tickets to Gainbridge Fieldhouse with semistate championships Saturday night.
Gage Riffle led the way with 14 points, including a key bucket with 46 seconds remaining and Triton downed North Vermillion, 51-45, to win the 1A North Semistate. It’s the fifth trip to the state finals for Triton head coach Jason Groves — all with the Trojans — but his first since 2013. #4 Triton meets #2 Barr-Reeve next Saturday morning at 10:30
Meanwhile, Westview dominated Bishop Luers in the 2A semistate at Muncie Fieldhouse, 69-48. Austin Schlabach led the way with 27 points from the guard position, as the Warriors make their first boys basketball state title appearance since 2014. #3 Westview meets #4 Parke Hweritage next Saturday at 12:45.
The hope for a trio of Sports Michiana teams was squelched in 4A, as Crown Point ended Northridge’s great season in the Final Four, 66-40. Brady Scholl ended his brilliant prep career with 27 points before fouling out with 2:40 remaining. Scott Radeker’s quad ends the best season in Raider history at 26-2.
Here are next week’s state championship matchups
1A: Triton (25-3) vs. Barr-Reeve (27-1), 10:30 a.m.

3A: New Haven (22-7) vs. Cathedral (24-5), 6 p.m.
